6 Essential Tips: How to Avoid Dry Skin In Winter

In winter, humidity drops both inside and outside.  The biting cold and the wind outside are drying out on the skin, as does the radiator heat inside. So what to do to keep your skin happy and healthy in the Danish winter?

At Dare to Care, we love winter. The dark months give us time for cosiness, reflection and planning. But with winter comes the cold, and it causes a special set of problems for a saturated, happy skin. The humidity is zero and the difference between the hot dry indoor climate and the biting cold outside dries out the skin and increases the skin's need for moisture.

If you do not give your skin more moisture or nourishment in winter, the tallow production is increased and because the surface is dried out the talget will not be able to get through and will therefore lie itself as encapsulations and clogging.

That's why we've gathered our best advice on how to avoid drying out your skin during the winter:

1. Check if you are using the right products

No matter what type of skin you have, it's rarely the same products that give you the optimal protection in winter that you use in the summer. Think moisture and nourishment. It is therefore important to go through your products and notice whether, for example, one's cleanse is sufficiently mild and moisturising.  Is the skin tight and ribbed after cleaning, and can't it go fast enough to get serum on? Then your cleanse is way too hefty for your skin. The best thing you can do is feel for yourself!

2. Drink plenty of water

Winter dries the skin in a completely different way than in summer, but that doesn't mean your skin needs less water. When we sit with a hot cup of tea or coffee you often forget the dehydrating effect, so therefore: remember to drink plenty of water – at least two liters a day.

3. Remember the fatty oils

Just as the skin needs nourishment from your skin care, the body also screams for the same. Your skin will thank you for all the good, fatty oils, vitamins and antioxidants you can add to your diet.

4. Moisture mask to the rescue!

Moisturisers are a great way to give your skin the moisture it requires at home. At Dare to Care we especially recommend two masks for winter, which we think fit perfectly: The first is Beauty Sleep Mask from Amazing Space. My favorite advice is that if you're not afraid to work a little on the glow of your skin, I recommend using Sleep Mask Tan Face from James Read:A great mask with hyaluronic acid that provides plenty of moisture and a light glow at the same time. You can buy them both in our store and in our webshop.

5. Sunscreen all year round

Just because summer is over doesn't mean the skin doesn't need sunscreen. Healthy skin needs year-round protection, especially in relation to the ageing of your skin. At Dare to Care we swear to Rad Sunscreen 15 SPF from Environ.

6. Remember the facial

A good facial with massage and plenty of moisture afterwards is important for maintaining a moisture-saturated skin throughout the winter. When you get your facial, you give both your skin movement, keep blood circulation going and cleanse the impurities away – and it helps your skin absorb your products at home better.

We have tailored our winter treatment – Winter Lifting Facial – to give your skin exactly what it needs in winter. You get a warm, soothing and moisturising treatment done in Aurelia Skincare's probiotic skin care products, which provide moisture, protect against dehydration and irritation from the winter cold and dry air – and a delicious luxury for the back above.

Finally, it is important to remember that winter gives us time to relax and enjoy each other's and own company.

Relaxation, tranquillity and relaxation have a greater effect on your skin's health than you imagine, so try to enjoy your winter as much as you possibly can – we hope to see you in 2018!
