Is your skin crunching no matter how much money you throw after creams? Here are my 5 holistic solutions to dry skin!
Many of our customers at the clinic find that their skin feels crunchy, no matter how many creams they use.
Roughly speaking, your skin can feel dry in two ways:
Moisturiser. This is a condition and can be changed. This condition is affected by the products you use, the sun and lifestyle.
Fat dry. This condition is affected by your body, especially your hormonal system. This condition is almost impossible to influence. However, you can do a lot to remove the symptoms completely naturally.
I have compiled five of the overarching holistic solutions that I have used to combat dryness for my customers at Dare to Care. If you're unsure where to start, the first step is to determine which condition characterizes your skin.
1. Moisturise skin requires moisture, dry skin requires fat
For moisturising skin, use serums. Sometimes oil at night can help because the oil is a membrane over the skin, which ensures that the moisture does not evaporate so easily.
Dry skin requires fat (oil). The best thing you can do is often use a combination. Be sure to use moisturizers and preferably use both serum and cream. When you apply products, it is also important that you wait to lubricate the next layer before the previous layer is fully penetrated. If you still feel dry after the last layer you can put on an extra layer of cream.
2. Hydration
You should always make sure to drink plenty of water. It is with good reason that we hear this advice so often. An important thing is that you need to start thinking about how much you drink compared to how much you are recording. If you drink plenty of water, be aware if you are peeing a lot. The more you pee, the less you record.
How well your body absorbs water can also be affected by your digestion. So an important thing to notice if you have very dry skin is how good your digestion is, and possibly adding fruits, vegetables or herbs to your water to increase absorption. You can also add vitamins to your drinking water, to increase uptake.
3. Essential fats
Another important factor for getting a less fatty skin is making sure to get enough essential fats! All cells in the body use fat and skin cells are the last to be supplied. This means that your skin only gets fat when all your other organs are saturated. It also means that you need to consume quite significant quantities in order to tell the difference.
I have experimented with my daily diet and come to the view that there can be a real difference after a week with this daily intake of essential fats:
· 1 whole avokado
· 2 oil shots (for example flaxseed oil, hemp oil and walnut oil)
· Fat fish
· 2 oil capsules (like krill oil, or coconut oil)
· 2 handfuls of nuts
· Good quality olive oil in addition to your food (2 tablespoons)
4. Stabilisation of the hormonal system
In addition to all these things, you should try to stabilize your hormonal system. The herbal capsules "vitex" or "woman support from Vita Viva" are good for balancing. You can read more at www.vitaviva.com/
5. Watch out for the summer sun
Finally, summers have come and therefore you need to take good care of your skin in the sun and make sure that you do not use cleansing gel, mousse, tonics with alcohol or fruit acid.
How do I know if it works?
In this context, it is important to remember that just as it is rarely a thing that is to blame for your problems, there is rarely a solution. I always advise my clients to try out and experiment and be prepared that changes do not happen overnight, but require patience and curiosity.
If you are not able to assess the condition of your skin or if you are progressing, you should have a professional look at your skin and help you. If your skin is both moisturising and dry, we at the clinic will categorize it as stressed, which is why we recommend you to come down for a scan and a conversation. For new customers, we recommend our Introductory Treatment, where you get both a 30 minute conversation and scan with your therapist as well as a tailored facial. You can read more about the Introduction treatment here.
